This is a follow-up conversation from our November Producer Buyer Forum. Led by Rye Matthews, Middlebury hemp grower and consultant to Vermont Hemp Company, we will learn about the evolving markets for locally produced hemp. Diverse opportunities exist for small producers along with new value-added products. We will share current consumer trends, potentials for growers and the impact for a regional supply stream.
There are many existing regulatory complexities in growing hemp, as a grower, Rye will navigate these with finesse. We will not be digging into all of them rather highlighting a few. Hemp, unlike marijuana, is high in CBD but contains less than 0.3 percent THC, psychoactive chemical compound that gets users high. Consumer interest in CBD is exploding with new products coming into the marketplace. Come expecting to learn a lot about the potential to grow hemp to meet new CBD demands and see what trends for value added products exist in the area.
